What can the stars, the sea and the animals around us teach us about Country?
Join DeadlyScience CEO Corey Tutt for a Deadly Stories session inspired by his new children’s book, Before It Was Called Science. Corey will yarn about the scientific knowledge First Nations peoples have developed and shared for more than 65,000 years, and the ways that knowledge continues to guide how we care for Country today.
A follow-up to The First Scientists, the book takes young readers from the ingenuity of the first scientists to the work communities are doing now. It explores ways of carrying food and water sustainably, removing salt from seawater, protecting endangered animals and responding to coastal erosion. Written for children aged 7–12, it features illustrations by Jaelyn Biumaiwai.
In this session, learners will have the chance to hear from Corey and think about science through a First Nations lens: as knowledge built through careful observation, shared across generations and connected to Country.
