DeadlyScience Branded Tram Launches as part of the Yarra Trams Community Partnership Program

 

As part of the Yarra Trams Community Partnership Program, a DeadlyScience branded tram will be hitting the tracks in Melbourne (Naarm) on the 9th May 2024.

The Yarra Trams Community Partnership program aims to provide in-kind advertising to community organisations dedicated to creating a more resilient and sustainable Melbourne.

The tram, featuring captivating artwork designed by Worimi-Biripi artist Jake Simon from InYaDot Art, will traverse two high-exposure routes from May to August 2024: Route 48 (North Balwyn to Victoria Harbour Docklands) and Route 109 (Box Hill to Port Melbourne). The artwork calls for Melbournians to ‘Tap into 65,000+ years of Indigenous science knowledge’, and is an important step towards respectfully recognising Indigenous peoples as the first scientists of this country.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in promoting STEM education and opportunities among Indigenous learners. Read the full MEDIA RELEASE HERE

Indigenous people were Australia’s first scientists, engineers and astronomers. Indigenous people used navigational astronomy for directions, solar power and forms of mineral mining for heat and cooking and large scale engineering feats like the Brewarrina Fish Traps that date back over 35,000 years.

Empower Deadly Learners

DeadlyScience is working to empower deadly learners to become the next generation of DeadlyScientists! It is critical that we empower Indigenous youth by providing them with pathways into STEM careers. The ‘Pathway to Diversity in STEM Review 2024’ outlines the important role that DeadlyScience has in creating these pathways for Indigenous learners.

Indigenous people are Australia’s First Scientists, however they are critically underrepresented in STEM fields. The ‘Big Mob: STEM it Up’ report offers recommendations on how these disparities can be addressed in collaboration with community.

Meet the artist

Jake Simon

Jake Simon (owner of I.Y.D.A – InYaDot Art) is a proud Worimi-Biripi man, born in Worimi country, Jake has lived on Gadigal lands of the Eora Nation since 2018.

Inspired by traditional art language, Jake’s work fuses traditional form with contemporary methodology to transform cultural storytelling into modern conceptual messaging.
