Deadly Labs: Kickin’ It kit was created with the learners in the Acmena Youth Justice Centre.

The Deadly Labs ‘Kickin’ It’ project brought the DeadlyScience programs team to Anjuna School at the Acmena Youth Justice Centre to create and design an experimental kit. Deadly Labs aims to empower young Indigenous learners with culturally appropriate scientific knowledge in the form of a kit. The ‘Kickin’ It’ kits were created with the young people in the Anjuna School at the Acmena Youth Justice Centre. Each kit includes everything needed to conduct sports science experiments, complete with a teacher guide, an experiment guide, and an instructional video.

The young people from Anjuna School took ownership of every stage from conception to design of these kits. DeadlyScience is currently distributing kits to youth justice centres across Australia. This will not only result in scientific educational resources for all of these learners but it will also showcase the entrepreneurial and science skills of the youth from Acmena.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government. The DeadlyLabs ‘Kickin’ It’ project is funded by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources Maker Projects – Community STEM Engagement grants to support Indigenous youth in juvenile justice settings.
