DeadlyScience pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land, to all Elders past and present, and to First Nations people everywhere. First Nations people have used science for over 65,000 years. Our culture is the oldest in the world. The first scientists passed on the lessons of the land, sea and sky, to the future scientists of today through stories, song and dance. We call this caring for Country. If you care for Country, the Country will care for you.

DreamMakers Campaign to Empower Remote Schools with 3D Printing Technology

DeadlyScience is thrilled to announce that at the recent Big Dream event hosted by UnLtd. in Sydney we received a unique opportunity to spotlight our mission and raise crucial funds during their Big Pledge. This year, we focused on an initiative that will have a transformative impact on First Nations students in remote and rural schools: equipping them with 3D printers.

With the funds raised during the Big Pledge, we were able to raise enough funds for our DreamMakers campaign to supply over 30 3D printer kits to remote schools that meet our Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) criteria. This includes providing not only the printers themselves but also necessary materials like printer filament and other educational resources tailored to the needs of Indigenous learners. This will also include an accompanying Teacher’s Guide to ensure educators are fully equipped to integrate this technology into their lessons, making the learning experience as engaging and supportive as possible.

In today’s rapidly advancing world, access to cutting-edge technology like 3D printers is essential for nurturing future innovators in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Unfortunately, many remote schools—often with a majority of Indigenous students—lack the resources to provide such vital tools. The funds raised during the Big Pledge will directly address this gap, helping us inspire the next generation of scientific leaders.

3D printing offers students a powerful way to engage with STEM education through hands-on, creative problem-solving. It provides opportunities for Indigenous students to design, prototype, and bring their ideas to life, empowering them to explore science and engineering in an exciting, tangible way. By integrating this technology into their classrooms, we can foster a mindset of innovation and possibility, opening new pathways for students often underrepresented in STEM fields.

Our ultimate goal is to make science and technology accessible and relatable for First Nations students, empowering them to ‘Dream Big’ and see themselves as the future leaders in STEM. By bringing 3D printing technology to their classrooms, we are providing them with tools that go beyond the textbook, helping them visualise their ideas, build their confidence, and explore new possibilities in science and innovation.

Thanks to the generous support from UnLtd. at the Big Dream event and its sponsors, we anticipate delivering these 3D printers to schools across the country in the first half of 2025, once logistics and stock availability are confirmed. A huge thank you goes out to all the major sponsors—Dentsu, Val Morgan, oOh!media, Yahoo, and Jo & Paul Hines – as well as Nine, JCDecaux, ARN, Kaimera, Seedtag, IPG Mediabrands, NOVA, GumGum, Zenith Media, Meta, MiQ, and many more who have contributed to this initiative. Your support is helping us inspire the scientists and engineers of tomorrow!

We are incredibly excited to see how this technology will ignite a passion for STEM in students and pave the way for a future where Indigenous voices are at the forefront of scientific discovery.
