DeadlyScience pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land, to all Elders past and present, and to First Nations people everywhere. First Nations people have used science for over 65,000 years. Our culture is the oldest in the world. The first scientists passed on the lessons of the land, sea and sky, to the future scientists of today through stories, song and dance. We call this caring for Country. If you care for Country, the Country will care for you.

NAIDOC Week – Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud

NAIDOC Week is coming up from 7-14 July 2024. This year’s theme, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud,” honors the enduring spirit and strength of Indigenous cultures. This week provides an invaluable opportunity for educators and students alike to immerse themselves in the rich histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In the classroom, NAIDOC Week can serve as a catalyst for meaningful discussions and learning experiences. Here are some resources educators can use to incorporate NAIDOC Week into their curriculum:

The official NAIDOC Week educational resources have been put together by ABC Education and Culture Is Life. Access the resource HERE.

There are a range of engaging resources available to purchase from Wingaru Education. Take a look at the range HERE.

Common Ground and Learning to Ngangaanha have put together an incredible classroom resource you can find HERE.

Twinkl Resources also have a range of fantastic free resources for the classroom. Take a look HERE.

Firesticks and SBS Australia resource: https://www.sbs.com.au/…/celebrate…/teacher-resource/

NAIDOC Week is more than a celebration—it’s a moment to educate, celebrate and deepen your understanding of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures. By incorporating these activities into your classroom, you not only honor the legacy and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples but also inspire the next generation to value and uphold cultural diversity and inclusivity.
